23 years as a faculty member with East Carolina University, 17 years as Chairman of PM&R, and retired from his position as Chairman of PM&R April 1st, 2019. Mentionable contributions he has made as Chairman include clinical care and program development related to being triple board certified (Rehabilitation Medicine, Pain Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation), having started a wound and hyperbaric medicine center that is UHMS certified, started pain medicine in the department with fluoroscopic guided injections, initiated diagnostic neuromuscular ultrasound in the department and point of care service in the hospital, achieved a nationally accredited EMG laboratory, started a mandatory medical student rotation, and helped assist with clinical trials and increased research productivity within the department.
